About The Arranger / Current Bio. Unless otherwise noted all the charts at Jazz Charts Online were composed or arranged by Joe Hasper. My publishing philosophy is that quality music should be available at a price musicians can afford. A quality chart shouldn't cost an arm and a leg, and you shouldn't have to sacrifice quality for price. The cornerstone of my business is customer service. I try to answer any and all questions within 24 hours, and if there is anything wrong with a piece of music or an order I will fix it. Period. My composition study began in high school with Dr. David Berlin. In 1980 I was awarded a scholarship to the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts where I studied composition, electronic and stochastic music, conducting, and attended master classes by Theodore Antonious I later studied composition at Carnegie-Mellon University with Dr. Marilyn Taft Thomas, Leonardo Balada, and jazz with Randy Purcell (Maynard Ferguson band, etc.). I attended master classes with Iannis Xenakis and Ward Swingle, and composed several theater and musical theater scores for the Scotch 'n Soda Club. In addition to performing with the Carnegie-Mellon University Chorus and Jazz Ensemble, I played keyboards in a series of bands performing everything from folk to fusion. In 1992 I completed a BFA degree in Music Composition. After earning a BFA in composition from Carnegie-Mellon University, I studied jazz theory and arranging at the Mannes College of Music with Rich Shemeira and Phil Markowitz. I completed music courses at the Armed Forces School of Music in 1986 and 1990, and additional credits in music theory study from the Army Institute for Advanced Professional Development. In 2004 I completed a Masters Degree in Education from American Intercontinental University From 1986 to 1996 I worked as piano player and arranger in US Army Bands based in Alabama, Washington State, New Jersey and Korea. In addition to performing hundreds of engagements with big band, jazz combo, wind ensemble, marching band and as piano soloist, I was in charge of 8 -10 piece show bands (rhythm section, 3-5 horns, and vocalists) which played popular and contemporary rock music. I wrote arrangements for every ensemble and had over 100 premieres in the US and overseas. Since 1981 I have been active as a piano soloist, sideman and combo leader. Most notable engagements include long-running jazz trio gigs at the Seoul Hyatt; keyboardist and arranger for Harriet Legrant in 1988-90; and keyboardist and arranger for The Great Scott Band in Asbury Park, NJ (1991-1993). In addition to my jazz compositions, over 100 of my band and wind ensemble works have been publicly performed by military, professional, amateur and school bands across the world. Highlights include the premiere of A Stephen Foster Medley at the opening of the Asiatic Bandmasters Conference in Seoul, Korea in 1988; performance of Concertino for Piano and Orchestra in 1990; a 45-minute patriotic program for the Monmouth New Jersey Indepencence Day Celebration and Concert in 1991; and the US premiere of Requiem For A Moment, a collaborative work for solo guitar and wind ensemble with guitarists Eric Peterson with Richard Laskee in 1993. In 1992 my composition The Happy Camper won the American Federation of Music Clubs Four Star Composer's Award. In 2006 my guitar solo, Portrait of Scotland, was selected to be part of the alumni dislay during Carnegie-Mellon's centennial celebration (100% Centennial). Since 1998 I have owned and operated Jazz Charts Online, an online music publishing company located at www.jazz-charts.com. Joe Hasper is currently an Assistant Professor at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. Professional memberships include BMI and Amercian Composers Forum Recent non-jazz works includeDensities (for orchestra) International orders are welcome! FABULOUS! ... We may be your best customers ever! -- ML (Beavercreek, OR) "Do Nothin' [Till You Hear From Me] worked very well yesterday. It was easy enough for the band to play yet good enough to sound professional to the audience. We were just going to rehearse it but it sounded so good we played it for the performance as well. - CW, Colorado Springs, CO I appreciate your helping me out! Charts are great! - DM, Neward, Denison University By the way, I have ordered several pieces from you in the past and am very happy with your products. SS, Cambria Heights, NY Here's another thought -- raise your prices. 5 bucks for a harmonized chart is unbelievable. You could double your prices and still be a great bargain. They are easily worth $10 a pop, esp when the going rate on the internet is $25 to $50 each. TR, Seattle, WA Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. That arrangement sounds fine. BW, Nordhoff High School, Ojai, CA "This looks great and I cannot wait to hear it... It looks very creative and "hot." - WBJ, Las Vegas, NV "I appreciate your arrangements and will probably order more." -- CL, Lancaster, PA "I love the chart! ...I will be in touch again next time I am looking for an arrangement. Thanks" -- CJ, ixiusa.com Now that is service! Got all three of the charts downloaded with ease... Thanks for everything. It is a pleasure doing business with you, and playing your charts for some very happy swing dancers. TR, Seattle, WA "Oh, I love Bewitched! Nice!" -- Vs, Cockeysville, MD "Wow. Am I enjoying your charts! I've just been looking at the chords for Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas..." -- Vs, Cockeysville, MD "I appreciate your arrangements and will probably order more. Most of our family are musical and we have a great time together. I appreciate your web site." -- CL, Lancaster, PA "Just wanted to thank you for your charts... I own a 7 piece combo with trumpet, sax, trombone, guitar, drums, piano and bass and the charts work really good with the band. I hope to see more charts for this kind of group in the future. It's really hard to get good music arranged for such a group but you have done a hell of a difference." TW (Chicago, IL) "We used about 15 charts last night. They are great and fill a huge void in our approach. With different players some nights, the lead sheet approach was not the best approach for us. Thanks for your work. I will check your site often for more purchases! (Your customer service is outstanding as well!) DM(Newark, OH) "Hi Guys, like your website... you need to get more arrangements scored for trumpet, alto, tenor, bari and trombone. I will order them!" I feel SO lucky to have found you. Thank you, thank you!! Your check is in the mail this weekend." - RB (Cape Cod, MA) "Thanks, I got them all. I tried a few of them out (In The Mood, Feel Like Makin' Love, Makin' Amends - very nice, Stompin', Scrapple) with a new combo yesterday, and I think they're going to sound great with a little practice! ...Thanks, again, and keep adding charts to your list!" - AR (Gaithersburg, MD) "Hey! You the man! I asked for In The Mood and All The Things You Are last night before I went to bed and they were here this morning. The trumpet played the lead with a Harmon mute and the sound was great!! I think Abide With Me as a bossa stretched one or two of our church goers a bit, but it worked out fine. We are scheduled to play these tunes for an Episcopal Church in April for the Sunday before Easter Service. And this is a paying gig!!! Things are a-changin. " - JN (Seabeck, WA) "We received the score and parts for "Dis 'n Dat" today and were able to print them out easily. Thank you for your quick response."- RD (Troup, TX) "Thanks for getting that chart to me so quick. The download went fine. . . This is a great method for buying charts. Thanks." - DG (Princeton, NJ) "Lately, we tried to play your arrangement. It has some challenges for us but we like the sound and hope to manage the arrangement. Finally, I have to mention that we are very satisfied with your work and we plan to order one more custom arrangement." CH (St. Gallen, Switzerland) |
