What I Do

I love to write music, and if I could I would be writing 23 hours a day. I love all of it--all the steps, all the processes, all the tools, and especially all the connections I've made through it.

My catalog includes concert works for large and small ensembles(including orchestra, wind ensemble, choirs, and chamber or solo pieces) and an equal number of jazz pieces (for combo, jazz ensemble, guitar ensemble, jazz orchestra, and musical theater).

To explain this diversity I only think of the music my mother brought home from the public library every week on vinyl LPs: Aaron Copland, Louis Armstrong, Anton Dvorak, The Mills Brothers, Andre Previn, Herb Alpert, Doc Severinsen, Maurice Andre, and so many other giants and not-giants that left guided my earliest ideas about music and helped form my aesthetic of music.

For music engraving I currently use Dorico (after being a Finale user for decades) and have recently begun doing some pieces in Sibelius. Since 2013 I've been doing more and more music production, with an arsenal of tools that include Pro Tools, Wave Labs, MAX/MSP, and dozens of virtual instruments and VST plugins.

And, I'm a music professor: I've been teaching college music theory, composition, orchestration and arranging since 2017. At Grove City College I am the Director of Jazz, which includes directing the Jazz Ensemble, Stage Band, and teaching jazz history.
